As some of you may know I practice Jow Ga Kung Fu. I've always wanted to learn traditional Chinese martial arts and have been studying since August 2001. I am actually studying two styles of kung fu: Jow Ga and Mizong.

Jow Ga Kung Fu is a blend of many of the best aspects of Northern and Southern Shaolin styles, and is quite practical.

Mizong is sometimes referred to as the "Lost Track" style and is a Northern Shaolin style.

I also compete in tournaments whenever I'm able. I don't take the competition too seriously, but I do enjoy measuring my current skill level against others -- as a gauge of progress. I tend to compete in the "very popular" Mens Intermediate 18-35yrs level -- usually Southern forms, Northern forms, short weapons and long weapons.

August 2004, I competed in the Wong 2004 Tournament. If memory serves I think I actually won a 4th place medal. Our school actually took 2nd place overall (and 1st in 2005).

July 2004, I competed in the US Chinese Kuoshu Federation Tournament.

June 2004, I competed in the 1st Annual 5 Tigers All Kung Fu Tournament in Maryland.

August 2, 2003 I competed in the Wong 2003 Kung Fu Tournament in Washington DC.

July 26, 2003 I competed in the 2003 International Wushu-Kungfu Festival and Championship. I did manage to walk away with a 1st and 2nd place medal.

July 27-28, 2002, I participated in the 2002 USCKF Tournament, and while I didn't place in either of my two events, personal progress was made. Maybe next year...
